[Eolienne]."La Tramontane", the dominant wind.
It's without a doubt one of the strongest winds in the world!

La Tram'.

Here it sometimes blows so strongly that it makes stones fly, and can overturn caravans on the motorway; it even derailed one train near Port La Nouvelle.

Other catastrophes include uprooted beach umbrellas, overturned garden gnomes and the wind is sometimes so strong that you can't even sail.

On the other hand, it dries your clothes, cleans the beaches and makes us think that there's a low tide… But most of all, this wind lets us go windsurfing.

And that's not hot air!

[Vent Violent].
"VIOLENT WIND BE CAREFUL"

A Gruissan le Windsurf c'est pas que du Vent.

La Tramontane or Tram' (North wind)

"When it starts blowing during the day, it lasts 3, 6 or 9 days. When it starts during the night, it lasts as long as a baguette."

Weather situation : anticyclone on the Atlantic coast, depression on the Genoa gulf.
Characteristics :dry strong wind, very sunny, and what way you look at it, it's amazing: over 200 days a year at more than 20 knots!

   Le Gregaou said le Grec

"Le Grec carries the rain in its bill."
This north-eastern wind is like its cousin Le Marin but it brings more rain.
Characteristics : blows early in the morning before weakening and turning south-east. It's the wind for the early risers!

The wind from Spain

It starts blowing in the afternoon and gives way to the Tramontane the following day.
Characteristics : wind from the south, hot and sunny.
Le Medjournaous said Le Marin

"When Le Marin goes, the sea makes good progress."
Weather situation :depression on the Mediterranean coming from Spain.
Characteristics : wind from south-east, soft, wet with cloudy sky.
It's rarely strong but the sea gets quickly rough.
